Our day began bright and early for a bus ride to Tiquina. Three hours later, this was our first rest stop. We had to all evacuate the bus and cross an extension of the lake by small boat before our same bus left us on the other side. If you had told me I was being punk’d I very well would have requested Ashton Kutcher’s autograph. Watching our massive tour bus transported across the river by a boat smaller than ours, probably could have been properly titled as a life raft, was like something out of a movie! How they managed that feet is beyond me! After another hour or so on the road we finally reached Copa Cabana. This may have been the cutest little waterfront town I had ever seen. With adorable little shops and food to die for, I was instantly hooked. We spent most of the afternoon there before meeting up for another hour and a half boat ride to Island del Sol. This is when we became acquainted with some Brazilian tourists who were also en route to the same island.

Everything about this place was awesome! Upon reaching the shore we were met by what is believed to be “the fountain of youth” but considering my track record here to far I decided against washing my face in the water. I guess I will just have to go ahead and save up for botox injections just like everyone else;)

Following a more than exhausting, oxygen-lacking hike we located our hostel. It was nothing like I expected. I was envisioning about 3 bunk beds to a room in company with a community bathroom. Boy was I wrong! In actuality, it may have been nicer than our hotel in La Paz. The photo below was the view from my room:

We spent the entire next day trekking the island. It was definitely one of those days where you have to watch where your are stepping, but ever single time you look up, you find yourself in awe. It was one of those days that made me sure that staying in the United States for the rest of my life was no longer an option. After this weekend I am sure that my life would not be complete without more days like this. Days where purely God’s work takes my breath away.

It was pretty unfortunate, but the entire weekend the weather was pretty uncooperative. Majority of Sunday it poured so that put a bit of a damper on our last bit of time in Copa Cabana and made for an interesting boat ride back. Although, I can’t complain, it was still clear enough to see Peru the entire way (in the first photo Peru is the giant dark land extension in the far distance to the right).

After a much needed weekend away we are all so excited to begin the week ahead. However, a few little random facts to keep everyone up to the status quo on information:

1. That footsaul team we have been playing/loosing to.. They were on the news this morning, they are actually the defending national champions (that helps the confidence a bit)

2. A CNN correspondent has joined us on our journey to tell our story for CNN Espanol, and potentially CNN in the United States

3. Doing fitness here sucks… My lungs feel like I am ringing out a sponge, I cannot wait to be back on sea level again in that sense

4.There is a Bolivian police convention thing in town, staying at our hotel actually, and all thanks to Deb (the CNN producer) for introducing me to one of the cops I may have my hookup to get into the San Pedro prison. Boarders bookstore will be my very first stop (after sushi) on my way home to pick up the book “Marching Powder” for sure! I’m so obsessed!
