It is day 1 and they wasted no time to put me to work! After I met up with the staff I was sent with Heather, the woman hired to train the volunteer coaches throughout this trip on a scavenger hunt throughout La Paz in search of a photocopier and store to purchase soccer balls! La Paz is out of control! For starters drivers stop for nothing and no one! Heather had to save my life as we made our way back to the hotel with a last minute snag of my collar heroically yanking me backwards! Unfortunately she was later stranded half way between four lanes of moving traffic, trying to stiff arm the hoods of different vehicles with absolutely no success. The best way to describe it would have to be literally a game of “real-life frogger”!

This city is like nothing I have ever experienced! It is actually extremely clean, well kept and all of the people I have interacted with are extremely friendly and helpful! Aside from a day full of friendly protests throughout the city, La Paz seems to have a lot to offer! A few of us went exploring a bit to locate one of the soccer fields we will be training at (picture below) and it was absolutely breathtaking! It is a turf field but sits right at the edge of a cliff overlooking the valley. Walking back we came across the famous San Pedro Prison in which there are no guards and is untouched by the country’s government! It is completely run by the prisoners with their own justice system and hierarchy! Unfortunately for me, they no longer hold tours through the prison once a cocaine scandal surfaced…

Myself and another LPF volunteer coach finished our day off practicing yoga with a two other female staff members preparing ourselves for tomorrow…THE FIRST DAY OF CAMP AND SPANISH CLASSES!!
